Redemption of AOL Verizon: What future for the Huffington Post?

The acquisition of AOL Verizon has done much laughter on Twitter (insert your best joke 56K modem here). But this is mainly to be placed on the front of video advertising that Verizon did a check for more than $ 4 billion. However, the interest of the cable operator for the media empire consisting of AOL in recent years (Huffington Post, TechCrunch and Engadget, in particular) is not very high.

Conflict of interest According to Re / code, AOL has conducted parallel negotiations to sell the Huffington Post, including German conglomerate Axel Springer, for about $ 1 billion. According to the website, the founder Ariana Huffington has never managed to agree with the boss of AOL, Tim Armstrong, a divorce and long smoldering.

On the side of technology sites Engadget and TechCrunch, Verizon may soon have a conflict of interest. The company has attempted to briefly launched a rival site, last year. But the experience was nipped in the bud when employees revealed that Verizon forbade them to write about government surveillance and Net Neutrality. With the recent passage of a law that will be fought tooth and nail by telecom operators, absolute editorial independence is more vital than ever.
